End of the World at the 2025 SBL International Meeting in Uppsala

From 23 to 27 June 2025, the International Society of Biblical Literature meeting was held at Uppsala University in Uppsala, Sweden. Facilitated by Cecilia Wassén, At the End of the World was represented in a session on 26 June, in which several of our team members presented. Presentations included Jayne Svenungsson, “At the End of the World: A Transdisciplinary Approach to the Apocalyptic Imaginary in the Past and Present”; Blaženka Scheuer, “Secret Knowledge and Sealed Books: Secrecy in Biblical Apocalypses”; Natalie Bloch, “The Temple as a State in Mind”; Tobias Hägerland and Katarina Pålsson, “From Justin to Jerome: Othering Processes in the Early Reception of the Book of Revelation”; and Joel Kuhlin, “The Apocalyptic Imaginary and Malcolm X's Revolutionary Rhetoric: Analyzing the Book of Revelation.” Wassén chaired the session, and they were joined by Dr. Robert Folger, Professor of Romance Literature and leader of the Käte Hamburger Centre for Apocalyptic and Post-Apocalyptic Studies (CAPAS) at Heidelberg University.
